Plumber from Washington state travels thousands of miles to help people affected by Hurricane Helene

Bo McKenzie traveled more than 2,800 miles to help people affected by Hurricane Helene.

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — The owner of a Mount Vernon plumbing business is making sure those impacted by Hurricane Helene are getting the help they need.

Bo McKenzie is the owner of "Full Speed Plumbing" based out of Mount Vernon. He traveled more than 2,800 miles to help people affected by Hurricane Helene.

He left his home in Oak Harbor Tuesday, to make the 40-plus hour trek to North Carolina. He traveled down with a camper filled with essential supplies, a Starlink and his Jeep hitched on the back.

"Burden on my heart that came in,” McKenzie said. “I knew I needed to serve these communities."

Communities that have been severely impacted by a deadly hurricane season.

"It's surreal," McKenzie said. "It's immense. It's unfathomable. It's just kind of everywhere," said McKenzie.

McKenzie's camper is filled with essential supplies.

"Usher supplies as well as communication,” McKenzie said. “Wellness checks on several people that they knew were alive but were kind of stranded."

He's partnering with local churches to provide aid. A similar partnership he's done locally.

"I've helped in Oso, I've helped in the fires on the east side of our state when they've been bad,” McKenzie said. "This isn't my first go around on these types of things although this one is magnitudes of scale larger."

McKenzie plans on being in North Carolina for at least the next two weeks. He encourages others to lend a helping hand to their neighbors in need.

"This is the same as my towns back home,” McKenzie said. “I would want neighbors from across the country to come and be here for us, if it was us. Wouldn't you?"
