I-90 reopens over Snoqualmie Pass, Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Cascades

The Cascade passes could get 5 to 10 inches of snow Friday.

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — Westbound travel of Interstate 90 reopened Friday evening as a Winter Weather Advisory is in place through the evening.

Snow was forecasted above 4,000 feet for the Cascades of Snohomish and King counties, with 5 to 10 inches possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Stevens Pass could pick up 5-8 inches of fresh snow. Estimated snow totals for Snoqualmie Pass look to be around 4-6 inches, according to the KING 5 First Alert Weather Team.

The weather service warns travel could be difficult, and drivers should slow down and use caution.

Another round of spotty showers are expected to move through later on Sunday. Snow levels will hover around 2,000 feet and snow accumulations at the passes are expected to be light. However, travel conditions could be slick.

On Christmas Day, an atmospheric river is expected to move through western Washington, bringing heavy rainfall. Snow levels will increase to about 3,500 feet and are expected to rise throughout the day.

Snow is possible at Stevens Pass, and a rain/snow mix is expected at Snoqualmie Pass. Stevens could get 2-4 inches of fresh snow and Snoqualmie could get 1-3 inches, according to KING 5 Meteorologist Ashley Ruiz.

Another atmospheric river arrives Tuesday, although snow levels are expected to be above pass level, and precipitation could fall as a rain/snow mix at the passes.

There is a lot of uncertainty in next week's forecast, Ruiz said, so the weather team will fine-tune as we get closer.
