Crews fight 10-acre wildfire burning near Darrington, Washington

The fire is burning in steep terrain just northeast of Darrington above Dearinger Park Road.

DARRINGTON, Wash. — Multiple agencies are working to contain a wildfire near Darrington, burning between the Skagit and Snohomish county lines, according to Darrington Fire District #24.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said the fire was reported just before 2 p.m. on Saturday. The fire is burning in steep terrain just northeast of Darrington above Dearinger Park Road and is about 10 acres in size.

Darrington Fire District #24 and the Oso Fire Department crews arrived on scene to find a fire in rugged terrain about 600 feet above the closest road, according to the fire district.

“With the combination of wind and terrain, the fire quickly grew and a helicopter was ordered out of Olympia,” the fire district said.

The wildfire has now been turned over to DNR, which provided three brush engines and two supervisors to the scene. Another engine is also helping contain the fire from the U.S Forest Service of Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.

The fire district said the wildfire even is expected to last for a least a couple days and people are asked to avoid the area.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
