SHERWOOD, Ore. — One person was killed in a crash Wednesday morning involving multiple vehicles on Highway 99 (Southwest Pacific Highway), two miles north of Sherwood. A second person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, the Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) said.

Investigators have identified the driver who was killed in the traffic crash as 72-year-old Robert Blomquist of Sherwood. The family is asking for privacy.

According to the Washington County's Sheriff's Office, Blomquist was driving north on Highway 99 and passed Southwest Langer Farms Parkway when he crashed into another motorist going the same direction. Blomquist lost control of his car and crossed the median onto oncoming traffic, where he crashed into a box truck head-on.

The truck then crashed into a dump truck that was going south.

The second person, who has not been identified, is expected to survive, police said.

All lanes of Highway 99 have since been reopened after having been closed for several hours in both directions between Southwest Cipole Road and Southwest Langer Farms Parkway, Oregon Department of Transportation said. Drivers are urged to use alternative routes as it may take a while for traffic to clear.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) said in a post on X just before 10:30 a.m. that a large truck and two passenger vehicles were involved in the crash. Sherwood police said officers were at the scene of the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash who has not spoken to investigators is asked to call WCSO's non-emergency number at 503-629-0111 and reference case number 50-24-13419.
