BEAVERTON, Ore. — A Beaverton car dealership's service building and more than a dozen vehicles were heavily damaged by an overnight fire late Wednesday.
Fire crews were called to the fire at a dealership on Southwest Canyon Road shortly before midnight, according to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R). They arrived to find flames bursting through the roof and out of multiple bay doors on the two-story service building.
Some of the firefighters began searching the building for occupants while others worked to attack the fire and keep it contained to the service bays. No victims or occupants were found, and no injuries were reported from the fire, TVF&R said. Canyon Road was temporarily closed so firefighters could stretch hoses across the street to the nearest hydrant. It took about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The burned cars included multiple electric vehicles, so Hazardous Materials Team members stayed at the scene through the night to keep the batteries cool and make sure the fire didn't reignite. TVF&R said that although the blaze involved electric vehicles, the exact cause is still under investigation. A fire investigator was at the site Thursday morning.
Footage shot at the scene shows fire crews in the parking lot of a Buick, GMC and Cadillac facility, but it's not completely clear if that's where the fire occurred; TVF&R did not release the name of the dealership in question, only specifying that the incident happened along Canyon Road near the intersection with Southwest 91st Avenue, where more than a half dozen dealerships and service centers are clustered.
