Employee violently attacked during robbery at Southeast Portland cannabis dispensary

An employee at Truly Pure Dispensary on Southeast Grand Avenue suffered a broken nose and possible concussion after four masked robbers took over the store.

PORTLAND, Oregon — The Portland Police Bureau are investigating a violent robbery that took place at a Southeast Portland cannabis dispensary on Tuesday night.

At around 9:40 p.m., security video showed four masked men barging into Truly Pure Dispensary on Southeast Grand and Yamhill. One of the crooks pointed a gun at the employee before forcing him upstairs to a back room. Video shows one of the robbers assaulting the victim, punching him several times.

"We're sick to our stomachs," said co-owner Matt Buker. "We're happy he's alive and okay but yeah, he got beaten pretty badly and I'm sure there's going to be plenty of PTSD to follow."

Buker said his employee was treated and released from the hospital after suffering a broken nose, black eye and possible a concussion after a second assault downstairs.

"The guy basically hit his head hard enough [against a metal door] where it bounced off the door and he collapsed to the ground," said Buker. "He's got a pretty good-sized knot on the head."

Over the course of nearly four minutes, video showed the men filling several bags with merchandise and cash. Cameras captured part of one suspect's face after he pulled down his mask. Buker said it was the robber who attacked his employee. Eventually, the four men left in their getaway vehicle, a dark-colored BMW X4.

Buker said in recent months, crooks have hit more than a dozen local dispensaries. For that reason, he said he was planning on installing a locking door with a buzzer, but just days before the scheduled install, the robbery happened. He wishes more could be done.

"I think that there is enough tax revenue coming from our industry that there should be something put in place that should be advocating for us and protecting us in these scenarios," said Buker.

Police said no arrests have been made in this case. They're asking anyone with information to email it to CrimeTips@Police.PortlandOregon.gov
