VANCOUVER, Wash. — Two people are dead following a shooting Thursday morning in Vancouver's Bagley Downs neighborhood. Police do not believe there is any threat to the public, according to a news release from the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).
Police responded to a report of a shooting near the intersection of Plomondon Street and Caples Avenue in the central Vancouver neighborhood south of SR-500. The shooting happened at around 8:20 a.m., police said; a caller reported seeing a man with a gun in a parking lot and then hearing gunshots.
Officers arrived at the scene and found two people dead. VPD Major Crimes Unit detectives are investigating. Police did not initially release any further information about the victims or the circumstances of the shooting.
In a subsequent news release Thursday afternoon, VPD said the incident was being investigated as a combined suicide and homicide, and that the suspect in the shooting is one of the two people found dead at the scene.
