YACOLT, Wash. – Speed was likely a cause in Tuesday's multi-vehicle crash that injured four students on a school bus in Yacolt.
The driver of a 1991 Ford Explorer lost control around 12:45 p.m. and side-swiped a school bus carrying 35 children between the ages of 10 and 13, according to Sgt. Dennis Pritchard of the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
The Explorer then continued into the path of a 2002 Toyota Pickup, hitting it head-on. The impact pushed the Toyota backward over an embankment.
Four kids on the bus were injured in the crash. None of the injuries was serious.
All of the people in the Explorer including the driver, 40-year-old Joel Kysar of Amboy, had minor injuries.
A family of four in the Toyota was injured and taken to area hospitals, Pritchard said. They were expected to survive.
According to Pritchard, speed was likely the cause in the crash.
"Speed too fast for roadway conditions appears to be the primary contributing factor," he said.
The crash is still under investigation.
