LONGVIEW, Wash. – A Longview teacher has resigned amid allegations that she had a sexual affair with an 18-year-old student, according to a Longview Daily News report. Lindsay Norwood, now 37, taught English at Mark Morris High School for 11 years. The alleged affair occurred during the 2013-14 school year.
According to The Daily News report, police are recommending that Norwood be charged with first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor, a felony, or second-degree sexual misconduct with a minor, a gross misdemeanor. The investigation is ongoing.
After obtaining a copy of the police records through the state Open Records Act, The Daily News reported that the student told investigators the relationship started with flirting and sexting when he was a junior in her English class. From there, it escalated into kissing and having sex multiple times, police said.
School district spokeswoman Sandy Catt told The Daily News that the district provides help to teachers who have feelings for their students and requires training on state and district codes of professional conduct.
