Person struck and killed in crosswalk in Vancouver

Vancouver police said speed, impairment and driver distraction were not factors in the crash.

VANCOUVER, Wash. — A person walking in a crosswalk was struck and killed by a vehicle early Monday morning in Vancouver, police said.

The crash happened around 6 a.m. in the area of East Mill Plain Boulevard and V Street.

According to investigators with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), the person was wearing dark clothes and didn't activate the overhead crosswalk lights before they started to cross East Mill Plain Boulevard. The driver of the car wasn't able to stop in time and hit the person in the marked crosswalk. The person died at the scene.

Vancouver police said speed, impairment and driver distraction were not factors in the crash.

Neither the victim nor the driver of the car were identified by police.

The VPD Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
