Man dies after being hit by train in Washington County

A man was hit by a train near the intersection of Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway and 198th Avenue, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Oregon — A man was hit and killed by a train Wednesday morning in the Aloha area in Washington County. 

Around 5:14 a.m., deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to repots of a man hit by a train near the intersection of Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway and Southwest 198th Avenue. Deputies closed the intersection, but it reopened just before 7 a.m.

Paramedics tried to save the man, but he died. The Washington County Sheriff's Office later identified the man as 41-year-old William Henry King. His family has been notified. 

Portland & Western Railroad (PNWR) confirmed to KGW that it operates the train. A spokesperson for PNWR said their thoughts are with the man's loved ones, and that there were no injuries to the railroad crew.

Personnel with the rail company that operates the train conducted a line inspection, and the conductor cooperated with investigators, the sheriff's office said.

WCSO said the investigation is ongoing. Witnesses who have not spoken with investigators are asked to call non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-011.
