SEATTLE — A woman was taken into custody after a standoff at a Federal Bureau of Investigations building in downtown Seattle.
According to the Seattle Police Department, a woman walked into the building pointing a gun at her chest "for unknown reasons" just after 3 p.m. on June 12.
The building was on lockdown for over an hour, according to the Seattle Police Department (SPD). The SPD Hostage Negotiation Team, Department of Homeland Security, King County Sheriff's Office, FBI and SWAT all responded to the incident.
According to SPD, the woman eventually placed the gun on the ground and was taken into custody by SPD SWAT.
During that time, nearby buildings issued precautionary alerts to workers.
"We just got a notification from our building management that there was an active shooter and they put us on lockdown and told us to stay in our offices until the lockdown was lifted," said Heather Bullock, who works nearby. "They didn't really tell us anything else."
No hostages were taken, according to SPD.
The FBI, which will handle the investigation, said nobody was injured.
"You always get a little bit nervous," Bullock said.
The woman's motives were unclear and no decisions have been made about possible charges, the FBI said.
Buses in the area were temporarily rerouted but returned to their regular routes just before 4:30 p.m.
