Missing Southern Oregon runner found safe

JACKSONVILLE, Ore. -- Police used information from a fitness tracker to help find a Southern Oregon runner who was missing for more than two days.

JACKSONVILLE, Ore. -- Police used information from a fitness tracker to help find a Southern Oregon runner who was missing for more than two days.

Dr. Ashley Laird left her Jacksonville home for a run around 9 a.m. Friday, and a search began after she failed to return.

She happened to leave her fitness tracker behind, and police said they were able to check her past routes so they knew where to search.

As crews were wrapping up the search effort Sunday evening, one of the searchers suddenly saw Laird standing near the trail, according to KOBI-TV.

“She just popped out of nowhere really,” Rick Klimek told the Medford NBC station. “Her father was on the team with us, and he got to find her, which was fantastic, and she was OK.”

Police said Laird hadn't had any food or water for more than 50 hours, and she was disoriented and dehydrated. Other than bumps and bruises, police said she appeared to be in good condition.
