MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - The Medford City Council is considering establishing a tiny house community for homeless people in the city.
The Mail Tribune reports that the council on Thursday heard from the public about the proposed village on a 1/3 acre lot near downtown.
Proponents of the plan say it would serve as transitional living close to resources for homeless people and transportation. The community would ban fighting, stealing, drugs and alcohol.
Business owners near the proposed site say they worry an increased homeless presence in the area would drive away customers. Some say they have already received complaints that patrons would stop coming to the area if the homeless village is established.
The proposal is based on a similar village in Eugene.
