Victims identified in fatal shooting near Broughton Beach

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland police have identified the two men killed in a shooting on the night of Saturday, July 13 near Broughton Beach.

The victims, 18-year-old Jmeire Asher of Portland and 38-year-old Deangelo Augustus of Salem, both died of homicide by gunshot wound, according to a Tuesday news release from the Portland Police Bureau.

Witnesses reported shots were fired around 7:50 p.m. July 13 at the M. James Gleason Memorial Boat Ramp on Northeast Marine Drive east of 33rd Avenue. Officers with North Precinct and the Focused Intervention Team responded to the area and found the men dead at the scene.

"The suspect or suspects left the scene before police were called and no immediate arrests were made", Portland police stated.

A witness told KGW they were eating at a restaurant in the area and were told to leave because of the shooting.

It was the third homicide in the city of Portland in less than 24 hours and the sixth in the month of July. According to KGW data, there had been 40 homicides this year citywide and 32 fatal shootings at the time of the incident.

The Tuesday news release did not include any further information about the circumstances of the shooting.
