SEATTLE — A teenage boy was injured Sunday night during a shooting in the Capitol Hill Organized Protest zone, also known as CHOP. It's the second shooting in the CHOP area in two days.
Seattle police said they received multiple reports of gunfire near Cal Anderson Park while they were monitoring a protest at 10:03 p.m. The protesters had marched from the CHOP to the West Precinct in downtown Seattle and were returning to Capitol Hill.
Police said they staged on the edge of CHOP with Seattle Fire and were figuring out where the teen was inside the zone when they learned he was taken to Harborview Medical Center in a private vehicle. If Seattle police receive 911 calls from inside the CHOP, the agency says it will try to coordinate contact with victims and witnesses outside the protest zone.
A 17-year-old boy arrived at Harborview with a gunshot wound around 11 p.m. Sunday, according to hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg.
The teen, who Seattle police said was wounded in the arm, was treated at the hospital and released from Harborview’s Emergency Department.
He declined to speak with police.
Police also got reports of a second person who was injured but couldn't confirm if there were additional victims.
No suspect descriptions were available.
The shooting Sunday night followed a deadly shooting in the CHOP early Saturday morning that left a 19-year-old man dead and another man critically injured.
No arrests have been made in that case.
