PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland police are searching for the mother of a 2-year-old child who died from suspected fentanyl exposure.
Since the death of her child three weeks ago, Mary E. Jacobo is suspected of carjacking someone at gunpoint, and also has multiple warrants out for her arrest. Police said the 26-year-old left the home during the incident involving her child and officers haven't been able to locate her since.
On Sept. 12, police officers responded to a call for a 2-year-old in cardiac arrest at a Northeast Portland mobile home park off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The girl, Aurora, was taken to the hospital where she later died. Evidence at the scene and conversations with hospital staff pointed towards fentanyl being a factor in her death.
Jacobo is considered armed and dangerous. If anyone sees her, they're asked to not approach her and call 911. Jacobo is 5-foot-5, 135 pounds with hazel eyes. She's believed to have recently dyed her brown hair to blonde and has a tattoo on the front of her neck, on her chest and on her left hand.
Family of the child, Aurora, spoke to KGW shortly after her death. Right now, they're anxious for police to find and arrest Jacobo.
"I hope that Aurora gets justice for what happened to her," said Dominique Hodges, Aurora's cousin. "She deserves justice, and Mary getting captured and having to answer for her crimes and what she did to Aurora — there's no justice, but we can settle for that."
They said Aurora was staying with her mother at a friend's house despite her mother not having custody.
