Scooter rider critically injured in Portland crash

The car driver was uninjured, police said. The surrounding section of Boones Ferry Road was closed Wednesday afternoon during the investigation.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A person riding a motorized scooter was critically injured in crash with a car in Southwest Portland Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau.

Portland and Lake Oswego police were called to the crash near the intersection of Southwest Boones Ferry Road and Southwest 19th Avenue at around 1:45 p.m. The intersection in the Englewood neighborhood is just north of the border between the two cities.

The scooter rider was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the car was uninjured and remained at the scene. The Portland Police Traffic Division Major Crash Team was called in due to the severity of the scooter rider's injuries, police said.

The scooter involved in the crash appeared to be a larger moped-sized model.

Southwest Boones Ferry Road is closed from Southwest 18th Avenue to Southwest Orchard Hill Road during the investigation, police said, and traffic had been heavily impacted near the intersection of Southwest Boones Ferry Road and Southwest 19th Avenue.
