PORTLAND, Ore. — This August, Rockstar Energy is hosting its inaugural Rockstar Energy Open in downtown Portland. The Rockstar Energy Open will be a skateboarding competition between elite professional skateboarders such as Chris Joslin, as well as local up-and-coming skaters.
The event will be free and open to the public to view and attend.
The competition aims to engage the community with friendly competition where nonprofessional skateboarders will get a chance to shine.
Rockstar is partnering with Platfrm, a content site which was recently founded on the principle of imploring storytelling action sports, in order to put on the event.
Kemp Curley, managing director of Platfrm, emphasized how important it is to connect with the community in Portland saying, "We also want to give props and respect to the skateboarding community of the Pacific Northwest through staging a free world-class event that recognizes their contribution to skate culture."
Starting June 12, skateboarders can enter themselves into the contest by submitting a video skating where they will be judged by fans, as well as experts, for a chance to be entered into the Rockstar Energy Open to compete against the world's best skateboarders.
If a world-class skating competition isn't as enticing to you as it may be to others, not to worry. Waterfront Park won't only be hosting a skateboarding competition during the Rockstar Energy Open; there will be live music and art exhibitions held throughout the park.
The event will take place from August 23-25 this summer.
