PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland's Ringside Steakhouse on Saturday morning started selling its dry-aged steak to the public for the first time in 75 years, now that the dining room is closed for coronavirus concerns.
And before the sale even began, the line of drivers taking advantage of the offer was several blocks long, with cars also queuing up on nearby side streets to get in on the action.
One Twitter user said the line was already 7 blocks long by 9 a.m.
Steaks were being sold frozen, and by the case only. For example a 10-lb. box of dry-aged rib eye, about eight steaks, was selling for $163. Boxes of bacon, pork chops and chicken breast were also among the menu items for sale.
"All Ringside staff will be wearing masks and changing gloves between guests," the sale announcement read. "We ask that you remain in your car for social distancing purposes."
Twitter user Scott Lesser posted a video of the traffic backup and advised people, "If you are thinking about going to the Ringside Steakhouse meat sale, don’t."
KGW has reached out to Ringside to find out whether the steakhouse will be able to continue the sale on Sunday as planned.
