PORTLAND, Ore. β Police across the metro area ran simultaneous stolen vehicle operations this weekend that landed over a dozen people in handcuffs and led to the recovery of several vehicles.
Portland police reported that officers recovered eight stolen vehicles on Saturday. The drivers of three vehicles that had been reported stolen were arrested and two guns were seized from the cars.
Reports of car theft have dropped in half over the last year which PPB attributes to stolen vehicle missions. There were 420 reports in February 2024 compared to 806 last February, according to Portland police.
Across the river, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) made several traffic stops that led to arrests for a variety of crimes.
VPD says officers pinned in a stolen vehicle and arrested the driver who they say also had stolen property.
Another driver of a vehicle without plates drove off from Portland police into Vancouver at speeds of over 100 miles per hour. Officers attempted to pull the car over, but the driver drove back into Oregon before being stopped by spike strips in Tigard.
Another driver was arrested for theft and forgery while several passengers were arrested for being in possession of stolen property, forgery, and organized retail theft.
A known assault suspect was also arrested at a shopping plaza, according to VPD.
