PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland police are asking for help to find a driver who hit three people during an illegal street takeover in April.
Hundreds of people gathered at North Multnomah Street and North Williams Avenue during the early morning of April 14. Around 2:51 a.m., video footage shared by Portland police shows a vehicle sliding in the blocked intersection and hitting one of the onlookers. That person is believed to have serious and possibly life-threatening injuries, according to Portland police.
The video shows the driver continue to slide as onlookers rushed to the injured person. The driver then strikes two more people, and one of them is eventually carried away from the scene. According to Portland police, onlookers may have performed CPR on one of the injured people. Portland police added that one of the injured people was taken to the hospital.
It's unclear what happened to the three injured people after the street takeover, and their current conditions are unknown.
The driver took off, but later returned to continue sliding, Portland police said.
Officers did not immediately respond to the street takeover, Portland police said, due to a "large, hostile crowd and active street racing continuing."
The driver's vehicle is described as a mid-1990s Ford Mustang coupe with black and yellow paint on its front end. It also has a low-profile spoiler and custom chrome wheels. It may have dents or other damage.
Police ask anyone with information about the driver, or anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them at crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 24-91703. They also want the three injured people to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers of Oregon.
