PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland International Airport is looking for thousands of volunteers to help test out how the new main terminal will perform — in a "dress rehearsal" of sorts — before opening day.
On Saturday, August 3, volunteers will go behind the scenes to explore the new space and go through how the new main terminal will operate, from check-in to bag drop to the security screening process.

Attendees should expect to be there for about 2.5 hours. Each person will receive a $50 Visa gift card and a chance to win bigger prizes in a raffle, according to the Port of Portland.
The new main terminal is the centerpiece of a broader redesign of the airport, which got underway in 2019. While most of the other components have already opened, the main terminal is the last piece of the puzzle. It was scheduled to open in late May but was delayed to August for further construction work.
Once open, travelers can enjoy standing under the new nine-acre timber roof and back on the iconic PDX carpet. The new space will also have around 22 new shops and restaurants, including the return of Powell's Books.
