PORTLAND, Ore. — FBI Director Christopher Wray has named Douglas Olson as the Special Agent in Charge of the bureau's field office in Portland.

Olson most recently served in the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington D.C. He replaces former Special Agent in Charge Kieran Ramsey, who told KGW in December that gun violence remains one of the region's top challenges.

After 21 years of being a special agent in the FBI, Olson has worked on a variety of criminal and national security matters, including violent crime, white-collar crime, and counterterrorism investigations, according the news release. Olson has worked in the FBI's field offices in New York, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Copenhagen.

In 2013, Olson was responsible for all FBI programs in Salem, while serving as the supervisor of the Salem Resident Agency in the bureau's Portland office.

While working in Copenhagen, Olson received an Attorney General Award for his work to further the interests of U.S. national security, the news release said.

Prior to joining the FBI, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a scout-sniper platoon commander and intelligence officer.
