LINN COUNTY, Ore. — One person was shot and killed by police and a second was wounded on Sunday night near Harrisburg, according to Oregon State Police.
Several law enforcement agencies responded to a reported shooting in Coburg around 3:00 p.m. that left one person with critical injuries.
Several hours later around 6:00 p.m., a vehicle of interest was located on Interstate 5 after a complaint about the driver's activity. A pursuit northbound from Exit 209 ended on the shoulder of the freeway near Diamond Hill Road after spike strips were thrown down and the driver crashed.
Linn County Sheriff's deputies and Oregon State Police troopers were involved in the shooting which left the driver dead, and a passenger wounded. No members of law enforcement were injured. The people shot have not yet been identified. Investigators have not said what led up to either shooting.
The members of law enforcement involved have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Albany Police Department leads the investigation. The OSP Major Crimes Team is investigating the previous shooting in Coburg.
Oregon State Police were assisted by the Linn County Sheriff's Office, Lane County Sheriff's Office and Coburg Police Department.
