Police ID victim in deadly shooting behind Dante's

Two shootings late Sunday night had police and detectives scrambling; one of those shootings killed a man in the parking lot behind Dante's nightclub at SW 3rd and Burnside.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Two shootings late Sunday night had police and detectives scrambling. One of those shootings killed a man in the parking lot behind Dante's nightclub at Southwest 3rd Avenue and Burnside Street.

Police later identified the victim as 23-year-old Dion Anthony Matthews, Jr. The Oregon State Medical Examiner determined that he died of a gunshot wound. 

Witnesses told police they saw people running and driving away from the scene after the gunfire at about 11:15 p.m.

Police have not yet said whether they have a suspect in the case.

Another shooting about a half hour later injured a young woman who was a passenger in a car driving on Northeast Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard. Police said she was hit as the car drove near Holladay Street and the car stopped at Weidler Street.

The woman police believe to be in her late teens was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
