MOUNT HOOD, Ore. -- Crews continue to battle a wildfire that started Friday night in the Mount Hood National Forest, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
As of late Saturday morning, fire crews said they had managed to hold it at 11 acres, but it was not yet under control.
The fire had burned two acres near Forest Service Road 1825 in the Old Maid Flats and Lolo Pass Road area when it was first reported at 3 p.m. Friday, said Laura Bain Pramuk of the U.S. Forest Service.
Nearby McNeil Campground was informally evacuated and will be closed for the weekend, Bain Pramuk said. Forest Service Road 1825 was also closed for the weekend.
A helicopter helped ground crews fight the blaze Friday afternoon.The cause of the fire has not been determined, but an illegal campfire was suspected Pramuk said.
Fire restrictions prohibit open fire outside of a provided designated campground.
