Why celebrate Black Friday when you can celebrate Green Friday?
On Nov. 23, the day after Thanksgiving, anyone can spend the day at an Oregon state park for free.
The state parks and recreation department is waiving day-use parking fees at 25 parks.
"We started Green Friday four years ago to encourage people to opt outside and the response has been very positive," said parks director Lisa Sumption. "We’re thrilled that many families now include a state park outing as part of their holiday tradition.”
The waiver applies to 25 state parks which charge $5 per day to park. See the list here.
The one exception is Shore Acres State Park, where the waiver expires at 3 p.m. for a holiday lights event.
