Oregon COVID-19 deaths dropped by 62% last week; reported cases down 25%

PORTLAND, Ore. — As counties across Oregon slowly begin to reopen and take steps toward normal life amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the state’s weekly report shows deaths, cases and the percentage of positive tests are all on the decline.

Last week, coronavirus deaths in Oregon dropped by 62% from the previous week, according to data from the state’s weekly report on the virus.

Eight Oregonians died of COVID-19 during the week of May 11-17. During the previous week, 21 people died of the virus.

The number of new COVID-19 cases saw a 25% drop last week from the week before. From May 11-17, Oregon reported 392 new cases. The state saw 526 during the previous week.

In Oregon, there have been 3,660 reported COVID-19 cases, which is 8.6 cases per 10,000 Oregonians.

In addition, testing continues to increase in Oregon and the percentage of positive tests continues to decrease, according to OHA data.

During the week of May 9-15, a total of 16,787 people were tested in Oregon and 438 (2.6%) tested positive. That’s down from 3.1% positive tests during the previous week.
