Ore. logger hurt when huge machine topples over

A worker was trapped in the cab of a logging machine and seriously injured when the huge piece of equipment fell over Monday, authorities said.

GASTON, Ore. – A worker was trapped in the cab of a logging machine and seriously injured when the huge piece of equipment fell over Monday, authorities said.

The accident happened just before 9:30 a.m., on Weyerhaeuser property near Hagg Lake.

Firefighters were first to arrive and found the toppled log yarder on top of a log processor. The operator of the yarder was trapped in the cab of the machinery, according to Gaston Fire.

It took crews more than 30 minutes to free the worker. He was quickly loaded onto an ambulance and taken to Oregon Health and Science University in serious condition, authorities said.

A log yarder is a large piece of equipment which uses a system of cables to move logs. Investigators said they have not yet been able to figure out why it fell over.

The victim's name and the name of his employer have not yet been released.
