PORTLAND, Ore. -- A former Grant High School stand-out convicted in a string of armed robberies in the 1990s was released from prison.

Tom Curtis served ten years behind bars for 19 hold-ups. His case attracted national attention and prompted an international manhunt, until his 1998 arrest in Las Vegas.
On Friday, the 29-year old was unceremoniously released from prison.
Curtis was student body president at Grant High School, an Eagle Scout and track star. But he also led a double life as a masked gunman.
"It broke everyone's stereotype of what an armed robber should be," former Portland Police officer C.W. Jensen said. "We expect them to be disadvantaged, poor, broken family, disenfranchised at schools, loners, and then all of a sudden boom, we've got a kid who is popular at school, class president, ? stable family, money and it just blows our profiling, our stereotype as a society all apart and it scares us."
Curtis returned to Multnomah County were he'll be on post-prison supervision for the next three years.
