Mom killed, her 2 young sons injured in Hwy. 30 crash

A mother was killed and her two young children injured in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 30 Monday, police said.
One person was killed and several were injured in a crash near Rainier Monday.

RAINIER, Ore. -- A mother was killed and her two young children injured in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 30 Monday, police said.

The crash occurred around 10 a.m., south of Rainier, near where Lindberg and Little Jacks Falls roads cross Highway 30.

The deceased victim was identified late Monday as Heather Robison, 26, of St. Helens, according to Sheriff Jeff Dickerson with Columbia County. Robison's two sons, ages 1 and 6, were taken to area hospitals where police said they were stabilized but didn't elaborate on their conditions.

The driver of one of the other cars, identified as Kierstin Merila, 21, of Warrenton, was also taken to an area hospital, Dickerson said. No further details about her condition have been released.

The highway was closed during the investigation and then reopened just before 6 p.m..
