The owners of Pacific City's popular Pelican Brewing Company have brewed up another reason to head to the Oregon Coast for a weekend getaway.
Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa, a new luxury resort on the beach just north of Pelican Brewing at the southern base of Cape Kiwanda, officially opened its doors in January, but a grand opening celebration is underway this weekend. The 33-room lodge includes 18 cottages, the restaurant Meridian and Tidepools spa.

Founding partner Mary Jones and husband and business partner, Jeff Schons, moved to Pacific City in 1990 and have had their eyes on the property and project for two decades. The team spent 20 years designing and redesigning the lodge to best take advantage of the Cape Kiwanda and Haystack Rock views, as well as the proximity to local tidepools and the dune.
Portland's Scott | Edwards Architecture designed the new lodge, which features a wood-burning fireplace in the lobby, two meeting spaces, oceanfront guest rooms with views of the Pacific and Haystack Rock and even a pillow menu for selecting just the right pillow for the best night's rest. The lodge also incorporates lots of local accents, from custom cutting boards from Hardenbrook Hardwoods in Redmond to dog beds from Ginger Beds in Portland.
Headlands' restaurant, Meridian, is headed up by executive chef Andrew Garrison, who had been with Salishan Spa & Golf Resort and the Jory at the Allison Inn & Spa. Its focus is on Northwest coastal cuisine, showcasing local seafood and Oregon wines. Tidepools spa in the lodge offers facials, hot stone massages and other amenities, and there's also a fitness studio and free exercise and yoga classes.
In addition, the lodge has a guided adventure program that will lead guests on customized excursions like hiking, crabbing, biking or cuisine focused outings.
