SALEM, Ore. — Salem police are investigating a shooting that left 96 shell casings outside a popular family attraction.
Officers responded to the carousel building at Salem's Riverfront Park around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday morning. According to witnesses, two groups of people got into a fight, and shots were fired from several different firearms. Police said multiple cars left the scene.
Several windows of the carousel building were shattered. Police released an audio recording of the shooting submitted as evidence.
Many parents expressed concerns over the shooting.
"I definitely will be a little more vigilant when I'm down here," said Melissa Ownes. "You just don't feel as safe."
"It makes me really sad," added Rachel Stewart. "We love it here, and the carousel is awesome. The kids ask to go to the carousel all the time."
