PORTLAND, Ore. — A woman fell into the Columbia River while trying to board a boat in Troutdale and drowned, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies received a call about a woman who had fallen into the river on December 8 around 3 a.m. in the area of the 5600 block of NE Sundial Road. Deputies found her unresponsive and pronounced her dead on scene. They've identified her as 26-year-old Olivia Payne.

An initial investigation shows a business was hosting a company party, during which Payne fell while trying to board a boat docked at the property and landed in the river.

After an autopsy from the county's medical examiner's office, her death was ruled a drowning and determined to be an accident.

Trauma Intervention Program NW, a nonprofit volunteer organization of specially trained citizen volunteers, responded to the scene to provide emotional support and resources to those attending the company part.
