PORTLAND, Ore. — A motorcyclist died in a crash late Wednesday night in Southeast Portland. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was seriously injured, Portland police said.
Officers responded to the crash at the intersection of Southeast Flavel Street and Southeast 112th Avenue around 11:16 p.m. They found the motorcyclist, identified as Phillip P. Taylor of Happy Valley, dead at the scene.
According to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), Taylor, 22, had been going south on Southeast 112th Avenue when he struck a Ford Focus going east on Southeast Flavel Street. The driver, a 66-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital.
The Portland Police Traffic Division is investigating, and no arrests have been made as of Saturday, PPB said.
Anyone with information about the deadly crash is asked to send an email to crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov, addressed to the Traffic Investigations Unit and reference case number 24-138693.
This marks the 23rd deadly crash in Portland so far this year, and the fourth involving a motorcyclist, according to Portland police, just behind last year's pace. In 2023, traffic deaths in Portland reached their highest total in at least 30 years with 69 deaths. As of June 5 last year, there had been 25 traffic deaths in Portland.
