VANCOUVER, Wash. — A teen who went missing "under extremely suspicious" circumstances near the Vancouver Mall late Tuesday afternoon has been found safe, the Vancouver Police Department said.

Vancouver police had requested help from the public to search for the 16-year-old. The teenager was at the mall with her family. The teenager's mother told KGW that their found her phone in a bush outside the mall and used the "Find My iPhone" app to ping the teen's phone location after they didn't show up to meet the family in the parking lot when it was time to leave.

Officers searched the area and detectives checked security cameras at the mall. Police told the family that the teenager's hoodie and headphone were found in a trash can near the area where the phone was found, according to the teenager's mom.

Just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Vancouver police said the teenager had been found safe with help from a member of the public.
