A kayaker is missing after capsizing in Silver Lake, Washington on Friday, April 3, 2020.

COWLITZ COUNTY, Wash. — A Cowlitz County dive team has found a body in Silver Lake, Washington that authorities believe is that of Robert Chick, a 28-year-old Castle Rock man who went missing Friday after his kayak capsized, the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office reported Sunday night.

The coroner's office will confirm the identity of the body.

The Cowlitz County Dive Team and a Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office boat were deployed out to Silver Lake on Sunday after a citizen contacted police with information he'd seen on his sonar while on Silver Lake.

Chick was kayaking Friday with another person, Stephanie Green, when Green capsized. Chick and Green were also accompanied by two dogs.

Chick began to tow Green back to the dock when he capsized as well. While attempting to use his kayak as a flotation device, he disappeared from sight.

Green managed to make a 911 call while hanging onto her kayak. Cowlitz Fire District 6 launched a boat and rescued her.

Green was taken to St. John Hospital in Longview, where she was treated and released.

Cowlitz County deputies and members of Cowlitz Dive Rescue responded and commenced a search. Searchers found the kayaks but Chick was not located during Friday's search. The dogs were recovered and turned over to the Humane Society.

On Saturday, Cowlitz Fire District 3 from Toutle, Washington and Cowlitz Dive Rescue returned to the lake to resume the search. Using several boats, sonar, and a local helicopter pilot, they again searched the area.

Chick was not found during Saturday's search, partly due to poor visibility in the water.
