Milwaukie police shoot man during traffic investigation

Police shot a man while conducting a traffic investigation near Southeast Oak Street. He was taken to the hospital.

MILWAUKIE, Ore. — At least one police officer fired their gun during a traffic investigation early Monday morning and hit a suspect, according to Milwaukie police.

Around 12:55 a.m., police officers where conducting a traffic investigation in the area of Southeast Oak Street. At least one officer fired their gun, Milwaukie police said. The suspect, a man who has not been identified, was hit and taken to the hospital. Milwaukie police said the condition of the man is unknown.

No officers were injured and there is no danger to the public, Milwaukie police said.

The investigation appears to be centered on a car in the parking lot of a Taco Bell off Highway 224, according to a KGW reporter who was at the scene early Monday morning. The car was towed by 7 a.m.

Police have not released any other details about what led up to the shooting and have not provided additional information surrounding the traffic investigation. Both Milwaukie police and Lake Oswego police officers were at the scene. 

The Clackamas County Major Crimes Team and the Clackamas County District Attorney are investigating.
