MILWAUKIE, Oregon — A Milwaukie man, who had been arrested in January for multiple charges relating to his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, has pleaded guilty.
The 27-year-old Andy Steven Oliva-Lopez entered a guilty plea to a felony charge of assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers on Tuesday in Washington, D.C.
Olivia-Lopez was arrested after being identified by the Portland and Washington FBI offices via video footage and images. On Jan. 6, he was on the west front of the Capitol grounds, clashing with Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers and United States Capitol Police, after driving cross-country from Milwaukie.
While there, Olivia-Lopez, while wearing a respirator mask, "sprayed streams of orange-colored bear spray at the faces and heads of police officers on the West Plaza" at least three times, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. Bank statements showed the purchases of two canisters of bear spray at a Portland sporting goods store, bought two weeks before Jan. 6.
Oliva-Lopez then climbed past temporary scaffolding for the upcoming presidential inauguration, located inside a restricted area.
At the time of his arrest, his charges included felony offenses of civil disorder and assaulting, resisting or impeding officers.
He will be sentenced Jan. 17, 2025.
