ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) - A Maryland woman whose children have been missing for more than two months isn't competent to stand trial in their disappearance, a new court filing says.
Catherine Hoggle faces multiple charges in the September disappearance of two of her children, ages 2 and 3. Police have said they believe the children are dead and are pursuing a homicide case against Hoggle, who has a history of paranoid schizophrenia.
Hoggle's attorney, David Felsen, wrote in a brief filed Tuesday that an evaluation found his client not competent to stand trial. Felsen also wrote that he believes police intervention and "feeding" of his client's "paranoid delusions have affected her ability to reasonably assist" him.
Felsen says police violated Hoggle's rights by interviewing her without him. He says her charges should be dismissed.
