PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland man who was taken to the hospital after being injured in a police shooting in May has been booked into jail and indicted on several charges, including attempted murder of police officers.
On May 29, around 5:05 a.m., detectives with the Portland Police Bureau (PPB)’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, along with the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT), were serving a search warrant in the 2700 block of Northeast 137th Avenue. The initial search warrant was related to an indictment for six counts of encouraging child sex abuse in the second degree and one count of encouraging sexual assault of an animal, according to PPB.
During the raid, 44-year-old Patrick W. Meyers, who was armed with a rifle, ran out the back door. One of the SERT members shot him, a PPB spokesperson recounted. The SERT officer will be placed on paid administrative leave as per standard protocol.
No officers were injured in the incident, PPB said.
After being released from the hospital on June 5, Meyers was indicted on a number of charges, including two counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of menacing with a firearm, and two counts of an unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center.
