Man shot, killed in Portland's Lents neighborhood

A man was found dead in the 7800 block of Southeast Aspen Summit Drive.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A man is dead after being shot early Saturday morning in the Lents neighborhood at the Scott Mountain by the Brook Apartments.

Officers responded to the 7800 block of Southeast Aspen Summit Drive and found a man dead in the apartment complex's common area.

No arrests have been made as of Saturday evening, Portland police said.

Some parts of the apartment's parking lot were not accessible during the investigation, but as of Saturday afternoon the property was reopened,  according to police.

Neighbors told KGW that the sound of gunshots is not that rare in the area, but it usually comes from the surrounding region, not within the complex itself.

More common crimes are usually car break-ins and thefts.

One neighbor who wished to remain anonymous said police were outside the complex for hours, and described the area as chaotic.

She found out about the shooting in the morning, and like many others, did not know who the victim was.

"The whole thing was kind of crazy and kind of jarring in general," she said.

"It's sad above all else," she continued.

The shooting remains an active case.

No information on suspects or the victim is being released at this time, police said.
