CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. — A man was taken to the hospital after he was shot by a deputy after a police chase Friday evening.
According to the Clackamas County Sherriff's Office, just before 6:30 p.m., deputies were notified that the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) was tracking a suspected stolen vehicle that had been "driving recklessly and attempting to elude officers."
The car, a white Kia Sportage, then entered into the parking structure at Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center on Southeast Sunnyside Road.
Clackamas deputies and a PPB unit found the car, which had three people inside. The car then "began ramming multiple responding patrol vehicles," and the driver was then shot by a deputy, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said.
The driver, after being given "life-saving measures" by deputies, was transported to a local hospital in "stable condition."
The passengers in the car were not injured, nor were any deputies or officers.
The car "was later determined to be stolen," said the Clackamas County Sherriff's Office.
The deputy, who has not been named, has been placed on paid administrative leave, as per protocol. The Clackamas County Interagency Major Crimes Team with the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident; detectives from Canby and West Linn are leading the Major Crimes Team’s investigation, along with Milwaukie, Molalla and Oregon State Police detectives.
