MILWAUKIE, Ore. — Milwaukie police have released the name of a man who was struck and killed by a driver on Tuesday afternoon.
Police were called at 1:40 p.m. to Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard near the intersection with Southeast 22nd Avenue. When officers arrived, they learned that a man, later identified as 80-year-old Louis Rodrigues, was in the roadway when he was struck by a driver traveling on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard. Rodrigues died at the scene. He was crossing Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard "in an area with no marked or unmarked crossing and shortened driver visibility," Milwaukie police said.
The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators, the Milwaukie Police Department said. The Clackamas County Crash Reconstruction Team (CRAFT) was dispatched and is working with Milwaukie police and the county medical examiner to investigate.
Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard, as well as part of Highway 99 East, was temporarily closed from Southeast Washington Street to Southeast River Road for the crash response and investigation.
This is a developing story and will be updated with more details as they emerge.
