LINN COUNTY, Oregon — A man is dead after being shot by a Linn County Regional SWAT Team early Saturday morning.

Around 12:42 a.m., the Linn County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a pedestrian having been struck by a car near Scio. The suspect's vehicle was found at Shimanek Bridge Drive, off Richardson Gap Road, with an "armed" man in the driver's seat.

The suspect, who has not been identified, refused to comply and "discharged his firearm" during the standoff with Linn County police.

The Linn County Regional SWAT Team — comprised of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Albany Police Department and Sweet Home Police Department — and the Crisis Negotiation Team, were called to the scene.

Investigators then tried to negotiate with the suspect by phone.

"The SWAT Team engaged with the armed suspect, and ultimately due to the suspect’s actions, he was shot," the Linn County Sheriff's Office reported. The SWAT Team Member who discharged their firearm is from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was pronounced at the scene.

No officers were injured.

The pedestrian was mildly injured, the Oregon State Police (OSP) said Saturday.

Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan and Benton County Sheriff Jef Van Arsdall have requested the OSP to investigate, as per protocol.
