PORTLAND, Ore. – NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt will anchor the newscast from Portland on Monday, May 7, as he kicks off the newscast’s “Across America” tour.
"We were looking for another city that had its own unique flavor and certainly there’s no city more unique in the west than Portland," Holt said.
During the tour, which spans five cities in five days, Holt will cover stories such as job creation, reducing crime and opioid addiction, according to the network.
"In Portland, we’re going to look at the opioid crisis," said Holt.
Holt told KGW's Tracy Barry viewers may see him biking through Portland during the newscast.
"I remember on my last trip to Portland, I remember seeing not just bike lanes like other cities but commuter bike lanes. You see a huge number of people in Portland get on their bikes and commute to work. I can certainly identify with that. So I’ve told the producers let’s get that in my schedule!" Holt said.
After kicking off the tour in Portland, Holt will anchor newscasts in Denver, Colorado; Chicago, Illinois; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Raleigh, North Carolina.
