TACOMA, Wash. — The kinkajou that was found abandoned at a rest stop on June 23 in Yakima got a comprehensive wellness exam at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. He is living at the zoo temporarily.

The head veterinarian of the zoo, Dr. Karen Wolf, says that the animal is in fair health. However, he is very thin and only weighs 2.5 pounds. The zoo staff is keeping him fed with a full and healthy diet.

The zoo staff is waiting for the results of the diagnostic testing, which included blood work, to get a full summary of his health.

The animal will continue to receive care behind the scenes while the staff works with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to find him a forever home.

The kinkajou was found at Selah Creek Rest Area. State officials said they were uncertain whether the animal was abandoned or escaped from somewhere.
