SHERWOOD, Ore. -- A driver was arrested for DUII near Sherwood, after police responded to a crash scene and found him hiding nearby, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said Daniel Horton, 54, of Sherwood, veered off Southwest Tonquin Road and slammed into a tree, near Southwest Morgan Road, just before 11 p.m., Saturday.

A passerby stopped to check on him and called 911 for help. But Horton ran off before officers arrived, according to Sgt. Vince Stimler. A K-9 team was brought in to track Horton and found him nearby.

Stimler said Horton apparently tried to talk the good Samaritan out of calling police before he fled.

"During the course of the investigation, deputies determined that Horton was driving impaired and arrested him for DUII and Reckless Driving," Stimler added.

Horton was lodged in the Washington County Jail. He was not seriously injured in the crash.
