PORTLAND, Ore. — A JetBlue flight from Portland International Airport to New York's JFK airport had to make an emergency landing Monday night after an apparent bird strike on takeoff from PDX.
Flight 1206 which departed at 9:50 p.m. circled about 30 minutes before landing safely, according to flight tracker sites.
"Heard a big thump, you could feel it and hear it," passenger Eileen Santoro of Naples, Fla., told KGW, "so I just put my earphones in deeper and tried to ignore what I heard."
The pilot then announced that they would be returning to PDX after dumping some fuel, she said.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the captain returned to Portland where the plane landed safely," JetBlue said in a statement.
Passengers were to be placed on another plane Tuesday, a Jet Blue official said.
